AASB Graduate intern program

Maybelle Chia (2009)

Maybelle Chia

Maybelle completed her Bachelor of Commerce degree at La Trobe University in 2006 and was awarded a scholarship by the University for her Honours year, which she completed in 2007.

Her honours thesis sought to develop an understanding of the implications of a corporate takeover on the performance measurement system and the employee incentive scheme of an Australian subsidiary of a large UK-based multinational corporation, through the combined application of Michael Porter’s model of the five competitive forces and Robert Simons’ framework of the four levers of control.

During and for the year following the completion of her honours year, Maybelle worked as a tutor, a help-desk tutor and a research assistant at La Trobe University.

At the AASB, Maybelle is working on a range of projects, including:
- disclosures by private sector not-for-profit entities (including charities)
- credit risk in liability management
- revenue recognition
- currency on issue
- New Zealand/Australia convergence
- associates/equity accounting/joint ventures

After completing the AASB Graduate Program, Maybelle accepted a position at Deloitte.
