Keynote speaker: 

Professor Baljit K Sidhu, University of Sydney 

Baljit K Sidhu PhD (Sydney), MCom (Otago), FCPA, FCA is Professor and Deputy Head in the Discipline of Accounting University of Sydney Business School. She currently serves on the Academic Advisory Panel of the Australian Accounting Standards Board and, has previously served on the Board of the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia & New Zealand, and as the Director of the Centre for Research in Finance at the Australian Graduate School of Management. Baljit is currently Joint Editor in Chief at Abacus and Associate Editor at Accounting & Finance and, was the Editor in Chief of the Australian Journal of Management from 2010 to 2016. She has broad corporate experience in banking and executive education, has held appointments at several leading universities in Australasia and visited extensively at international business schools (e.g., LSE, Rice, Rochester, Stanford) including teaching at the London Business School and the University of Michigan. Baljit’s research interests reflect issues of concern to accounting standard setters and regulatory authorities through a focus on corporate reporting and in particular, the informational role of accounting constructs in contracting and firm valuation. Her research has been published in leading journals including the Journal of Accounting Research, the Review of Accounting Studies, Contemporary Accounting Research, Accounting and Business Research, Abacus, the Australian Journal of Management, Company and Securities Law Journal and Accounting and Finance. This research includes projects funded through numerous university and external research grants (Australian Research Council, Australian Securities Exchange).

Matt Tilling, UK Endorsement Board 

Matt Tilling CPA has had a career focused around the international accounting standards (IFRS Standards). He spent nearly 20 years in Australia as an academic (including Head of Accounting at the University of Notre Dame, Australia) and in the profession (including Senior Manager at BDO, Australia). During this time Matt wrote a number of textbooks and many academic papers on accounting. Matt then moved to the UK to join the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) as both Director of Education and a member of technical staff. In these roles he supported the implementation of IFRS Standards around the world and was part of the IFRS 13 postimplementation review. In 2021 Matt joined the UK Endorsement Board (UKEB) as Project Director. The UKEB is responsible for influencing the development of, and adoption of, IFRS accounting standards for the UK. A major focus of his work is accounting for intangibles. Matt has also run courses on financial accounting and financial statement analysis at Cambridge University. 

 

Nicolas Konialidis, EverEdge 

Nicolas brings over two decades of Corporate and Financial experience to EverEdge’s Valuation Team. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a Chartered Valuer and Appraiser (CVA). He was awarded the Lim Chong Yah Academic Gold Medal for his Nanyang Fellows MBA at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He graduated from the Institute for Political Science (“Sciences Po”) in Paris, France. 

Before joining EverEdge Global, Nicolas was a corporate finance advisor and Investor Relations officer for corporate clients in Singapore in a variety of industries, most notably in Renewable Energy. 

Before that, Nicolas spent sixteen years in Equity Capital Markets in Paris, London, New York and San Francisco in an array of functions from trading to Institutional sales for firms such as SE Banken, Credit Agricole and Sanford C. Bernstein. 

 

Stephen Reid, Deloitte 

Stephen is a Partner of Deloitte’s mergers and acquisitions business, specialising in providing clients with valuation advice for mergers and acquisitions or other commercial purposes.  During his 30+ year career with Deloitte Stephen has provided clients with corporate finance advice, pre-acquisition due diligence reviews, valuations, structuring advice and feasibility studies in respect of companies operating across a broad range of industries throughout Asia. 

Stephen is an Adjunct Fellow of Macquarie University and teaches Business Valuation in the university’s Master of Applied Finance. He is also a FCA Business Valuation Specialist, Chair of the Business Valuation Specialisation Committee of CAANZ and teaches the experienced pathway online course for chartered accountants seeking to be Business Valuation Specialists.
