The Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) invites you to attend a dialogue event and hear from experts discussing some of the challenges and opportunities about implementation of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) recommendations.

Keynote speaker:
Professor Wai-Fong Chua, University of Sydney
Professor Chua is internationally known for her research on management accounting as a social and organizational practice and the use of qualitative fieldwork as an investigative method. She has received $1.7m in competitive research grants and published widely in prestigious, international accounting journals such as Accounting, Organizations and Society, The Accounting Review and Contemporary Accounting Research. In addition to serving as a reviewer on the boards of numerous well-known accounting journals, Professor Chua is a Consulting Editor of Accounting, Organizations and Society. She has also been involved with research training through professional accounting associations such as CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) and the EIASM (European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management). Further, through Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, Professor Chua has published several research monographs on social and environmental reporting. She has also been involved with executive education and consulted with both private and public sector organizations.
In 2012, Professor Chua was recognized for her contributions to research, university administration and mentoring while she was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia. In 2009, she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Jyvaskyla, Finland and received the Outstanding Contribution to the Accounting and Finance Literature Award from the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand. Professor Chua was elected a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia in 2008 and is its current Treasurer. She was inducted into the Accounting Hall of Fame in 2019 and is the Plenary Speaker at the 2022 annual conference for the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand.

Adrian King, KPMG
Adrian is the Partner in Charge of KPMG’s Climate Change & Sustainability Services team in Australia. Adrian also led KPMG’s global capability and thinking in ESG. Climate Change and Sustainability services from 2014 to 2021. Adrian has more than 30 years of experience working with public and private companies globally providing financial and non-financial advisory, reporting and assurance services. He has also held a number or senior internal roles, led several different practices and undertaken numerous lead partner roles.
Adrian advises clients on sustainability strategies, ESG risk methodologies, environmental risk assessments, preparedness to report, materiality assessments, gap analyses, supplier screening, climate resilience planning, developed Social Return on Investment (SROI) solutions, impact measurement, valuations of social and environmental capital and developed future corporate reporting and communications strategies and KPI measurement.
Ramana James, IAG
Ramana has a long career in sustainability, ESG and shared value. Previous to IAG he led sustainability and shared value teams across the telecommunication and property industries with Vodafone and Stockland. He has experience working across Europe and Asia on sustainability and climate change and has extensive experience in developing integrated and embedded approaches to sustainability that support strategic priorities and commercial success of organisations. As the Executive General Manager of Safer Communities at IAG, Ramana now leads a diverse team that is responsible for developing, executing and enabling IAG’s organisational wide sustainability, safer communities and shared value activity, including IAG’s ESG, sustainability and climate change disclosures. The team have a strong focus on executing on IAG’s purpose of ‘making your world a safer place’ and supporting commercial opportunities through this work. Ramana has previously been recognised as a ‘Shared value trailblazer’ at the BOSS Magazine shared value awards and was recently a Co-Chair of the Coordinating Working Group for the Australian Sustainable Finance Initiative.
Professor Naomi Soderstrom, University of Melbourne
Dr. Soderstrom received her Ph.D. in Accounting and Information Systems from Northwestern University. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia. Her primary research areas are sustainability and management accounting. Dr. Soderstrom has presented her research at over 60 universities worldwide and her work has appeared in major journals including Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, The Accounting Review, Journal of the American Medical Association, Review of Accounting Studies, Contemporary Accounting Research, Inquiry, Journal of Management Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting, Auditing, and Finance, and Journal of Accounting and Public Policy in the U.S. and Accounting Organizations and Society and European Accounting Review in Europe. In addition to serving on the editorial boards of several journals, she is a former Editor of Journal of Management Accounting Research (2016-2018), a current Editor at Journal of Accounting and Public Policy (2018-present), and Guest Editor for an upcoming special issue of Journal of Management Accounting Research on sustainability reporting and management. Prior to joining the University of Melbourne, Dr. Soderstrom was on the faculty of the University of Washington and University of Colorado. She has been a Visiting Professor at Copenhagen Business School (Copenhagen, Denmark), IE (Madrid, Spain), ISB (Mohali, India), London School of Economics (London, UK), Mannheim Business School (Mannheim, Germany), the University of Maastricht (Maastricht, Netherlands), and Tel Aviv University (Tel Aviv, Israel). Dr. Soderstrom is Past President of the Management Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association.
