Technical Director - Sustainability
As Technical Director - Sustainability, Lachlan leads the AASB’s sustainability reporting technical work program, including the development, maintenance and implementation of Australia's climate-related financial disclosure requirements through the Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS). He provides strategic and technical leadership across the AASB’s sustainability activities, supporting the Board in delivering standards, guidance and implementation initiatives that are practical, globally coherent and fit for purpose in the Australian context.
Lachlan leads engagement with regulators, government, investors, preparers, assurance providers and professional bodies on emerging sustainability reporting matters. He also contributes to international standard-setting activities, helping ensure Australian perspectives are represented effectively in the ongoing development of global sustainability reporting requirements.
With more than 15 years of experience across sustainability standard setting, academia and professional practice, Lachlan brings deep technical expertise in sustainability reporting and financial reporting. Before joining the AASB, he held academic positions focused on sustainability reporting, accounting and finance, and gained private-sector experience working on complex forensic accounting and insolvency matters. His breadth of experience enables him to bridge technical, regulatory and practical perspectives in the development and implementation of sustainability reporting requirements. Lachlan is a Chartered Accountant, Certified Practising Accountant and holds a PhD focused on sustainability reporting.
